If every candidate in the election would have nobody to support him/(be "independent"), he will be purely judged by and voted for based in his nature/personality, and he won't be able to manipulate decisions of the people :)

basically, "be independent". You know, no assistant, no supporters to help him, etc. He'll be all on his own.
