Inductor is nothing but a wire winded on an insulator. If Alternating current passes through it then due to self inductance effect electromagnetic field is produced which cuts itself and hence inductor opposes the alternating current due to which inductance will exist. Now when DC is passed through a inductor there is no alternating current so it just acts as a normal conductor with resistance. If high DC voltage is given, it may damage the inductor as the resistance of inductor is usually very low
