Having low levels of haemoglobin (or being anaemic)  means that you do not have sufficient red blood cells in your body.

Since these cells are responsible for carrying oxygen to all parts of the body, the lesser the RBCs, the greater the problems.

Being anaemic can cause many problems triggered by a lack of oxygen:

1. Breathless- The body gets lesser oxygen than it requires, which causes breathlessness.

2. Dizziness- Dizziness occurs when there is a lack of oxygen in the brain.

3. Fatigue- Since the various tissues and muscles do not get the required amount of oxygen, they cannot complete the respiratory process properly, because of which sufficient energy cannot be released.

4. Cold hands and feet- This also happens due to a lack of oxygen supply to the limbs.

5. Pale skin- When the RBCs are low in number, the body sends them to the organs, instead of sending them to the skin. (It is more important to keep the organs functioning normally.) So, the skin begins to look pale.

6. Heart issues- It is the heart’s job to pump blood and oxygen to all parts of the body. Since oxygen levels are low, the heart works extra hard to supply it to the body. As a result, it starts beating irregularly and can even fail altogether.
