What happens if there is an excess of hcl in the stomach?How its effect can be cured?

Hydrochloric acid is produced in our stomach. The excess acid in the stomachcauses indigestion which produces pain and irritation. This effect can be cured by using antacids. Antacids (a group of mild bases) react with excess acid in the stomach and neutralise it.
