What happens if there is external magnetic field around a live wire?

a force can act on a wire carrying an electric current when it is in a magnetic field.this does not happen if the wire is parallel to the mehnati field but it does happen when the wire is at the right angle to the magnetic field the direction of the magnetic field is reversed.
