mucus is in stomach and it protect the stomach walls from hcl which is produced in stomach. If there will not be the lining of mucus present on stomach wall then the walls can get damaged.

If mucus will not be present in the oesophagus then lubrication will not take place and hence, food will either not move forward or will move with extremely reduced speed.
