If there was no iris in the eyeball, then if you go into a bright place like a beach or a well lit studio, your eyes will start tingling uncomfortably, like when you switch on the light after sleeping for two hours. If you go into a dark room you can't see anything. So, we can say that the iris helps in regulating the light entering the eyeball.
