What happens if water is added to concentrated hcl?

When water is added to Hydrochloric acid, a vigorous exothermic reactionoccurs liberating large amount of heat which can even burst the test tube or beaker in which it is mixed. ... It allowswater to absorb the heat released in the process of mixing and hence, it's a better way of mixing them.
