Answer:

Is it normal or healthy to cry for 4 hours straight?

VERY HEALTHY. Your brain chemistry makes changes and little “helpers” get released to find the receptors, to help you feel a little bit better. Longer cry = longer parade of helpers. The endorphins and feel good hormones.

And a bigger picture is involved beyond the tears and chemicals.

It took a life-time to find this extremely destructive action (depression), to one’s life, if it (the grieving process) is interrupted from taking it’s natural course for cleansing & finding some sort of resolution, after a trauma or catastrophe is incurred.

It may or may not be normal, but it is healthy, to cry that long for a particular loss, so it is critically important to cry non-stop or intermittently, as long as the need exists to physically & violently SHED the overwhelming grief, that has accumulated from a trauma, catastrophe or loss.

Even if it is several days straight, every other day for weeks, (or years after the loss of my Pop, a hole in my heart that may never be filled), or just five minutes, it must flow it’s natural course to thin out, or it gets dammed-up into a cesspool of festering depression. So, man woman or child > when it’s time > just cry & cry & cry till you run out of tears, it’s the BEST medicine for the soul.
