The backbone is present from the base of the skull to the pelvis and protects the spinal cord and also provides support for the body. It enables us to sit straight, walk, and move around with an erect posture.
Without a backbone, we would not have an erect posture, also the spinal cord would have been easily injured. The backbone also serves as an attachment point for the several muscles as well as the pelvic and pectoral girdles.
