What happens in situations when receptors do not work properly what problems are likely to arise?

Receptors detect all the information from our environment and feed it to the nervous system for example gustatory receptor present in our tongue detect test of our food where is olfactory receptors present in our nose detect is smell now if the receptor of our tongue do not work properly we will not be able to know the taste of different types of foods and please the olfactory receptors present in our nose do not work properly they will not able to smell thing like the flavour of food are fragnance of a perfume.
