when a ray of light passes through prism it get refracted in to thicker base of prism and due to different speed of light colours in any medium white light get dispersed in to its seven constuient colour known as VIBGYOR.

Red light has longer wavelength so it deviated less.

Violet has smaller wavelength so it deviated most.

It was first observed by Newton.

The seven colors can be obtained in a screen knot as spectrum.
