what happens to a gas if it's inter molecular space is reduced?

If the gas intermolecular space decreases it first become liduid and then solid. Eg. Water vapour when cooled become water and then ice.

When the intermolecular spaces are reduced that means pressure is applied then it changes into its liquid state
It's liquefaction takes place when temperature is reduced
