When the air is heated the molecules of air absorb energy and the energetic molecules move faster because molecules are so apart and less denser they expend and can be contracts when u cooled .

when air is heated it become lighter and thus rises up in atmosphere whether the cold air is much hevier than the hot air and it sank in the atmosphere
