But inert gases has exceptionally bigger size due to vanderwaal’s radius

across a period the number of shells remains the same but the number of electrons in the outermost shell keeps on increasing... due to this the effective nuclear charge between the nucleus and the valence shell increases and the nucleus will have a stronger pull on the valence shell. hence across the period the atomic size decreases.
