Dry Raisins when placed in plain water will swell up. Dry Raisins when compared with water have low concentration of water or high solute concentration or we can even say in more specific way as having low water potential.
We can say that the plain water is a hypotonic solution w.r.t the raisins. There is a concentratiin gradient set up across the membrane. So water moves into the raisins from higher to lower concentration (endosmosis). The raisins will be swollen up.

If they are placed in a concentrated solution(hypertonic) the reverse would happen. The raisins will shrink.

The phenomenon that is happen in these case is Osmosis.
