Villi are small hair like projections which help in increasing the surface area for absorption.

Once the food is absorbed by villi, the carbohydrates and proteins which are present in chyme enter the bloodstream.

The undigested food is then removed out of the body.

This increases the rate of nutrient absorptionto a great extent. Through the epithelium of the villi, the digested food molecules pass from the lumen of the intestine to the blood capillary network or lacteals. The other nutrients such as glucose, amino acids, & minerals are absorbed by active transport.
