What happens to haemoglobin in sickle cell anaemia?

Hy,
In sickle cell anemia, the no. 6 amino acid of haemoglobin chain is replaced.
Glutamine is replaced by Valine.

Abnormal versions of beta-globin can distort red blood cells into a sickleshape. The sickle-shaped red bloodcells die prematurely, which can lead to anemia. Sometimes the inflexible,sickle-shaped cells get stuck in small blood vessels and can cause serious medical complications
