What happens to plants if the rate of respiration becomes more than the rate of photosynthesis

The balance of gases(oxygen and carbon dioxide) gets tipped off.So it oxygen level becomes less, without oxygen no organisms can survive. And when there is excessive of carbon dioxide global warming increases.
