The type of bond that will be formed will be changed from eoectrovalent to covalent bonds .
The compounds formed will be changed from strongly basic to strongly acidic due to metallic and non metallic character of elements and the number of valence electrons

What happens to the basic character of oxides down the group and Why?
As the go down a group Basic Character of the oxide increases.
Reason- As the go down a group Metallic Character increases.
You must have known this.
You know that Metals Make basic oxides when they react with Oxygen.
The Elements Having Strong metallic character Will form strong Basic Oxides then the element having Lesser Metallic character.
Lets take the EXAMPLE of Group Number 1.
In group number 1, Lithium will lave least metallic character ( In Group 1 only) and Francium will have hightest metallic character.
SO, Francium will form more basic Oxide then Lithium.
I hope this anwer helps you .
