What happens to the concentration of hydronium ions when acid is diluted

The concentration of hydronium ionsdecreases when an acid is dilutedbecause on adding water the H+ ionsof the acid and hydroxyl ions of water react to form water molecules and theconcentration of hydronium ionsdecreases.
