when there is a lot of light trying to enter our eyes our eyes contract...and when there is very less light available the expand to maximise the input of light
so when we just enter darkened cinema hall from bright sunshine our eyes are contracted so almost no light from darkened cinema Enters our eyes and we see nothing but after few moments our eyes expand and then we start seeing everything..

after a few moments your brain sends message to your iris telling it to let in more light thats why you can see better after you have been in dark room for five minutes
