Saliva softens and moistens food and washes over TASTE BUDS in the tongue so that flavors can be identified. The digestive process also begins in themouth—saliva contains chemicals that break down some foods.

the food gets mixed with the siliva which brakes down the food and make the food simpler to digest to our body.
