because for all normal distance between eye and the object ,the image formed by the lens is always on the retina. All the time it get focussed on the retina.
But that is the case for normal eye.
image changes if you take object much near than 25cm(roughly),image starts distorting and the the muscles around lens in our eye have to put more efforts to make lens move curved in order to focus on retina.That is the reason we feel pain in this much near distance if se more time.
