What happens to the L-proline alter the bis-proline salt is hydrolyzed? Why isn't it recovered along with the
(S):(+)-phenylsuccinic acid? How could
L proline be recovered if wanted? (2 points)

L-proline alter the bis-proline salt is hydrolyzed it does not recovered with (+)- S isomer of phenylsuccinic acid

Explanation:

  • Proline is an amino acid which contain protonated amine and deprotonated carboxy group.
  • Bis proline salt of (+)- S isomer of phenylsuccinic acid is less soluble in 2 propanol and precipitates
  • Bis proline salt of (-)- R isomer of phenylsuccinic acid is more soluble in 2 propanol and thus mother liquor is enriched in  (-)- R isomer of phenylsuccinic acid after filtration, in HCl give (+)- S phenylsuccinic acid
