What happens to the potential difference if one resister is connected in parallel and other in series?

In series :

total \: potential \: difference \:  = r1 \:  + r2 \:  + r3

In parallel :

v \: total =  \frac{1}{r1}  +  \frac{1}{r2}  +  \frac{1}{r3}

Here r1, r2 and r3 are different potential differences respectively..
