as we know potential enery depends mainly from what height the object is thrown .
that's why when the object is thrown from double the original height the potential difference will also increase as it is directly proportional to height

typically ,the ground is considered to be a position of zero height .... since the gravitational potential energy of an object is directly proportional to it's height above the zero position,a doubling of the height will result in doubling of the gravitational potential energy...
