When there is a disaster or calamity the production of food grains decrease. This in turn creates shortage of food in the affected areas. ... If such calamity happens in a very wide spread area or continues for a long period of time, it may cause a situation of starvation. Massive starvation can result into a 'famine'.

When a disaster or natural calamity such as earthquake, drought, flood, Tsunami occurs or when due to unfavourable weather

conditions there is a widespread failure of crops, the food supplies is adversely affected.

Due to the scarcity of food the price of

food grains Rises due to which malpractices such as  black marketing takes place. This result in

the inability of food to reach the needy. At times when such scarcity persists

for a longer period of time it may lead to starvation.
