Answer:

So the particles start to break away from each other, moving more freely and increasing their potential energy. Any energy added during this period increases the potential energy (causes a phase change) instead of increasing the kinetic energy(increasing the temperature).

Interconversion of matter is the change of matter from one state to another and back to its original form .It does not change the mass of composition of matter. the existence of matter in three physical state- solid ,liquid and gas is mainly because the temperature and pressure .Temperature and pressure is sufficiently changed to change the state of matter.

The kinetic energy of the particles increases with rising temperature and decreases when the temperature is lowered.

Example:- Condensation

Temperature of the substance is decrease the molecules of the gaseous particles are coming closer to each other. The intermolecular spaces are decreasing and gaseous substance is converted to liquid does condensation occurs.

Evaporation

The heat energy applied to the liquid increases the kinetic energy of the molecules move faster. The intermolecular space is increased and the intermolecular force of attraction is decreased. Molecules become free to escape from the surface and evaporation occurs.
