Ethanol oxidized in the presence of Kmno4 to give ethanoic acid as the final product.

Ethanol gets oxidized to ethanoic acid due to the presence of a powerful oxidant agent potassium permanganate(Kmno4). When Kmno4 added to the solution, the color of the solution disappears slowly. The color of the solution remains the same only in the case of excess Kmno4. Let's understand the reaction with the help of a chemical reaction:

CH3CH2OH + Kmno4 (heat) -----> CH3COOH(ethanoic acid)
