If blue litmus paper is dipped in the aqueous solution[solution in which water is solvent] of acid then only blue litmus paper turns red. Water is necessary to change the colour of litmus paper because acid dissociates hydrogen ions in aqueous solution.

If blue litmus paper is dipped in aqueous acid solution then the Blue litmus turns to red . So if blue litmus is touched to acid powder there is no reaction
