Nothing happens when a few drops of red litmus is added to orange juice. In other words , the red colour of litmus remains unchanged.

Reason:

  • Orange is a citrus fruit. Hence orange juice is mainly constituted by Citric Acid.

  • Citric Acid is a weak organic acid.

  • Litmus acts as an indicator. In an acidic medium blue litmus changes to red colour. In basic (or alkaline) medium, red litmus changes to blue colour.

  • So , the colour of red litmus in acidic medium remains unchanged because there is no change in the chemical structure of the indicator in that medium.

Red colour of litmus remains unchanged.
