When a Magnesium Ribbon is burnt in air, the Magnesium absorbs Oxygen from the air and compounds with it, thus forming Magnesium Oxide (MgO).
If mixed with Water, it will form Magnesium Hydroxide [Mg(OH)₂] which can be used as a common solution for Stomach Acidity. Magnesium Hydroxide is commonly called Milk Of Magnesia.
