What happens when a piece of magnesium ribbon is burnt in an atmosphere of nitrogen gas to form solid magnesium nitrate?

Unlike most other elements or compunds, Magnesium does indeed burn without the aid of Oxygen.

Magnesium will burn with Nitogen emitting sparks and a bright white flame just like Oxygen and gives out Magnesium Nitride. (A white solid)

3Mg+N2−−−−>Mg3N2
