What happens when a piece of zinc is dropped into sodium hydroxide
solution?Write a balanced equation to show the reaction and also name the

When sodium hydroxide solution is heated with zinc granules then Sodiumzincate and hydrogen gas are formed. The salt formed by the reactionbetween a base and a metal, the metal is present as a part of the Negative Ion . All the metals do not react with bases to form salt and hydrogen gas.

Zinc reacts with hot and conc. sodium hydroxide to form sodium zincate with the liberation of hydrogen.

Zn + 2NaoH > Na2ZnO2 + H2
