Acid and base are mixed to give salt and water. This process is exothermic in nature giving out heat called as heat of neutralization which causes an increase in temperature. So, these reactions can be explosive in nature when acid is added to any base and this raises the temperature of acid-base reactions.

When a solution of an acid is mixed with the solution of a base in a test-tube then both the acid and the base react with each other and they neutralise each other to form a salt and water.
Example:
1. Chemical equation:
HCl(acid) + KOH(base) → KCl(salt) + H2O(water)
2. Chemical reaction:
Hydrochloride acid + Potassium Hydroxide(base) → Potassium Chloride(salt) + Water
☆ The things on the left hand side of the arrow are called REACTANTS.
☆ The things on the right hand side of the arrow are called PRODUCTS.
