(ii) Compression wave reflects back as compression from denser medium.

◆ Reflection of longitudinal waves -

Longitudinal waves consist of compression and rarefaction.

  1. In rarer medium after reflection, phase difference is 0. Therefore, compression becomes rarefaction and rarefaction as compression.
  2. In denser medium after reflection, phase difference is π. Therefore, compression becomes compression and rarefaction as rarefaction.
