When an acidand a base are placed together, theyreact to neutralize the acid and baseproperties, producing a salt. The H(+) cation of the acid combines with theOH(-) anion of the base to form water.The compound formed by the cation of the base and the anion of the acid is called a salt.

When an acid and a base reacts with each other two compounds are formed.

They are:

i)Water(H2O) and

ii)A salt.(any)

Example: NaOH + HCl - NaCl + H2O

Here NaCl is salt and H2O water.
