When an acid reacts with a base, it forms salt and water. This is called as a neutralization reaction.

HCl+NaOH——————>NaCl+H2O.

Explanation:Let's take an example,,

HCl + NaOH gives NaCl +H2O

Here HCl is an acid and NaOH is a base,

As we know,H part of HCl is positively and Cl part of it is negatively charged,same ways Na part of NaOH is positively and OH part of it is negatively charged.So the positive part of HCl will react with the negative part of NaOH and the negative part of HCl will react with the positive part of NaOH.

So,H+OH gives H2O and Cl+Na gives NaCl

So,the product formed is a salt and water.
