When an acid reacts with a metal carbonate,it produces metal salt+water and carbon dioxide.

For example:

2HCl(aq)+CaCO3(s)=CaCl2(aq)+H20(l)+CO2(g)

So when you look at this reaction, you have reacted Hydrochloric acid with Calcium Carbonate (which is a metal) to give Calcium Chloride(metal salt),Water and Carbon dioxide.

Thus this reaction proves that when you add acid with any carbonate, it gives off Water(H20),Carbon dioxide(CO2),and the metal salt. There are many more examples of acids reacting with metal carbonates.
