When alumina is treated with sodium hydroxide ,two compounds are produced  from the reaction.

• When alumina or aluminium oxide is reacted with sodium hydroxide , sodium aluminate and water is produced.

one mole of Aluminum oxide react with

two moles of sodium hydroxide to produce  two moles of sodium aluminate and and two moles of  water respectively. This reaction takes place at a temperature of 900°C -1100°C.
