The reaction proceeds as follows:

KOH + NH4Cl → KCl + NH4OH

It is a double replacement reaction, however upon heating will evolve ammonia gas (NH3). Thus, the equation for heating this reaction would be:

KOH + NH4Cl → KCl + NH3 + H2O(l)

It is very important to understand both these reactions because it is non-spontaneous and only reacts upon boiling or heating the solution.
