water enters the potato as a result of osmosis. Since the medium surrounding the cell has a higher water concentration than the cell, the water moves inside by osmosis. Hence, water gathers in the hollowed portions of the potato cup.

Let me give this a try;
- When the potato cap is placed in a tough with water, the potato cap will gradually be filled with water.
- This is because the potato cap possesses the semi permeable membrane which allows for passage of water through osmosis.
- The potato may continuously absorb water, swell and becomes turgid this is due to the movement of solvent molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration across the semi permeable membrane.
