Solution:

  • An object that moves because of the action of gravity alone is said to be free falling.

  • The acceleration of free-falling objects is called the acceleration due to gravity since objects are pulled towards the centre of the earth.

As the object is just dropped, the initial velocity is 0.

  • Due to gravity the object accelerates (positive acceleration) and results the body to continuous increment in velocity of the body.

Examples:

  1. A stone dropped down an empty well.
  2. A ball dropped from the top of a tower.
