When benzene is burned in free supply of air, it evolves carbon dioxide and water vapour.

• Benzene is a hydrocarbon made of carbon and hydrogen.

• On burning in free supply air with adequate oxygen content, the carbon and hydrogen in benzene get oxidized to carbon dioxide and water vapour respectively.

• The combustion of benzene in free supply of air is represented by the following reaction :

2C₆H₆ (Benzene) + 15O₂ + ∆  →  12CO₂ + 6H₂O
