What happens when cadmium rods are slowly withdrawn from nuclear fuel?

(i) If the cadmium rods are completely inserted in a nuclearreactor, all the neutrons produced shall be absorbed and fission process would stop. (ii) When cadmium rods are slowly withdrawn from the fuel, no. of neutrons would increase and ultimately lead to explosion.
