Calcium carbonate ( CaCO3 ) when heated strongly , gives quicklime ( CaO ) and carbon dioxide ( CO2) .
CaCO3 (s) ---heat----- CaO (s) + CO2(g)
CaCO3 - limestone (calcium carbonate)
CaO - Calcium oxide (quicklime)
CO2 - Carbon dioxide
Explanation -
This reaction is thermal decomposition reaction . Thermal decomposition reaction is a type of decomposition reaction in which heat is required to break the bonds present in the substance. Thus it is a Endothermic Reaction .
