What happens when calcium carbonate is heated at high temperature?

Calcium carbonate is strongly heated until it undergoes thermal decomposition to form calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. Thecalcium oxide (unslaked lime) is dissolved in water to form calciumhydroxide (limewater).
