The milkiness disappears since calcium bicarbonate is water-soluble. When carbon dioxide is passed through lime water which is a diluted solution of Ca(OH) 2, it turns milky due to the formation of calcium carbonate which is CaCO3.

when we pass carbon dioxide through lime water it will turns milky and form precipitates.
CO2 + Ca(OH)2--->CaCO3(ppt.)
this is a test which is used to check whether carbon dioxide is released or not...
There is also another test by br8nging a lighted candle near test tube if it will extinguish it means carbon dioxide released.
