Chlorine react with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium chlorate, sodium chloride and water. The reaction takes place in a concentrated solution heating the reaction mixture. The reaction between chlorine and cold dilute sodium hydroxide solution is: NaClO3 is sodium chlorate(I).
